I could imagine your feeling when you said you unintentionally signed for YMCA boys club. Camping is fun and I miss it. For the past 4years haven’t gone on one. Thanks for sharing your experience

Great memories to look back on! I absolutely love unintentionally (or intentionally) breaking into a “men’s” activity. Camping and fishing have always been two that my son and I together as his dad isn’t around to take him. So much fun and such a great way to spend time together.

When going camping it’s really important to be well-prepared for whatever is coming. This is also why a lot of people i know find it very stressful to do it, but i love camping. thank you for sharing the post!

It’s so awesome that you were able to pass on the love of outdoors to your kids. I’m sure that they’ll have such precious memories of those days.
I was so glad to hear that your tribe had your back too – bonds like that are to be treasured.

What a beautiful story of a change agent – holding steady, and doing what you love! It really isn’t about gender, it’s about following your bliss and knowing that anything you want to do, you can! Thank you for the inspiration!

Can you believe I have never been camping? Not once. It IS on my list of things to do this year. My husband was a boy scout and has been aching to go – so I think at 34, I will finally get to experience camping!

I used to go camping every summer when I was younger! I still have all the equipment just in case I’ll manage to go again (fingers crossed!) Camping should be gender free, why would it be a guy thing? No, no we are all camping lovers! 🙂

I went camping late last year and I confess it was hard. It rained all the time and it was so scary at nights. I might try it again though and see if I can love it like you do.

Good for you for going through with that first trip despite the stigma attached, and for continuing to show both kids how to enjoy nature unplugged. Those new members were ridiculous for trying to made you feel unwelcome. I’m glad your tribe proved their loyalty. Great read.
