Fortnite from Epic Games is the latest juggernaut to hit the gaming community. It is the world most popular game. Recently ending Pubg’s reign as king of the gaming world. It’s done something else, however. It’s put to bed the issue of microtransactions and the gaming community willingness to accept them. Solidifying the fact that gamers don’t have the courage of their convictions.
Back in the days in Destiny One and any trip to its toxic forums you were treated to basically a litany of daily threads detailing the evils of microtransactions. Which may or may not be true. In essence, if you took the road that you were fine with microtransactions as long they were only cosmetic in nature, you were made out to be public enemy number one.
How sanctimonious they were in their preaching. How they never would ever support a game that had microtransactions. Regardless if they were only cosmetic in nature. If you did you were the scum of the earth. I even got random messages from people I didn’t even know who needed to yell at me because I defended the right of the game publishers to make money.
So how did Fortnite a game that is essentially king of microtransactions become so popular? Not to mention they are some of the most expensive ever to be seen. Elite level items are 9.99. You can buy complete games for that much. It’s sheer madness! So the question remains why did this happen?
Fortnite a good game. It’s fun to play but it’s not what you really call one the greats of all time. I really don’t think it’s even one of the best of the last three years. So what the conclusion? Gamers talk a lot of shit but the gaming publishers know how full of shit they are. If a game is popular enough they now you will pay out the ass for something you really like.
There is a saying the gaming world. Don’t complain “Git Good” Well the gaming community needs to adopt a new saying when it comes to microtransactions. “Git Real” because your all talking out your ass and they know it.
Now if you will excuse me the Fortnite Tricera Ops outfit is out today and I have $20 bucks burning a hole in my pocket.

It has quite a ‘moreish’ appeal, I get that. My daughter is obsessed but it’s not something I would play. I prefer things like Dungeon Siege and Diablo, that kind of thing. Plenty of swords, you see.
